Factories must be relocated from river bank: State Minister

State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury asked the industry owners to relocate factories on river banks. He said, if anyone built any establishment inside the river boundary, it must be removed.

The state minister was speaking to a programme organized by Secretariat Reporters Forum at the secretariat on Wednesday (September 15).

“We gave the opportunity to those who built industrial factories along rivers. If they fail to evaluate the opportunity, tougher moves will be taken,” Khalid Mahmud Chowdnury said.

Mentioning the government’s zero-tolerance policy against any illegal occupation including that of rivers the state minister said, “Illegal occupation of river banks across Dhaka city is yet to be evicted entirely. There are some legal issues which our lawyers are facing. Hopefully, we will succeed.”

Referring to produce 10 thousand km waterways Khalid Mahmud said, “This was a part of the Awami League’s election manifesto. We are working to meet the target. Almost three thousand kilometer waterways have been revived or created anew. We have started getting its benefits.”
