Fishing ban imposed in Bangladesh’s maritime waters for 58 days

The government of Bangladesh has announced a ban on fishing in its maritime waters for 58 days, starting from April 15 to June 11. 

This move aims to protect the country’s marine fish resources, promoting healthy breeding and ensuring sustainable fishing practices.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock shared the news in a press release today, Tuesday, highlighting that during this period, no fishing vessels will be allowed to catch any species of fish in Bangladesh‍‍`s maritime zones.

The government has taken this step to aid in the proper reproduction, production, and conservation of marine life.

This ban, effective from April 15, has been enacted under the powers granted by Rule 3, Sub-rule (1), Clause (a) of the Marine Fisheries Regulations, 2023. 

The notification was signed by H.M. Khalid Iftekhar, the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry, in accordance with the President’s orders.

The government has emphasized that this action will play a critical role in maintaining the long-term sustainability of the nation’s marine fisheries.
