Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman left Dhaka on Saturday for a three-day official visit to Russia, where he is expected to hold high-level discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on bilateral relations and international developments.
The visit comes at the invitation of the Russian foreign minister and is aimed at reviewing cooperation between the two countries and exploring new areas of engagement.
Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir is accompanying the foreign minister during the trip, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Officials said Dr. Khalilur Rahman and Lavrov are scheduled to meet in Moscow on June 8. The talks will cover a range of issues, including bilateral cooperation, regional developments and matters of global importance.
The visit is expected to provide an opportunity for both sides to assess the current state of Bangladesh-Russia relations and discuss ways to strengthen cooperation in key sectors.
Bangladesh and Russia maintain longstanding ties, with collaboration spanning trade, energy, education and multilateral forums.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova earlier confirmed the visit and said the two ministers would exchange views on issues of mutual interest during their meeting in Moscow.
The foreign minister is scheduled to return to Bangladesh on June 9 after completing the official visit.
