An investigation report against Sheikh Hasina has been submitted to the International Crimes Tribunal, accusing her of being the mastermind behind the genocide that took place in July.
The report, submitted by the investigation agency, mentions Sheikh Hasina as the person who issued the orders for the massacre.
The report was submitted on Monday, May 12, to the Chief Prosecutor`s office. After its submission, Chief Prosecutor Mohammad Tajul Islam will provide further details at a press conference at 12:30 PM.
On Friday, Chief Prosecutor Tajul Islam had posted on Facebook, stating that the International Crimes Tribunal`s investigation agency was expected to submit the report on the July genocide to the Chief Prosecutor’s office on Monday.
Following the submission of the report, formal charges will be filed, and the legal proceedings against Sheikh Hasina will officially begin.
On October 17, an arrest warrant was issued against Sheikh Hasina by the International Crimes Tribunal for her involvement in the suppression of the anti-discrimination student movement, which resulted in charges of genocide.
On the same day, arrest warrants were also issued for 45 others in connection with another genocide accusation.
The investigation report submitted on Monday includes the names of two additional individuals in Sheikh Hasina`s case: former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun.
In December of the previous year, the tribunal had ordered that the investigation into the July-August genocides, involving charges of crimes against humanity, be completed within two months for cases against Sheikh Hasina, Obaidul Quader, and 46 others.
The tribunal is currently conducting trials against Sheikh Hasina and others for planning and ordering the killing of unarmed students during the anti-discrimination student protests.
The government of the Awami League conducted indiscriminate killings to suppress the student movement, leading to nearly 1,500 deaths.
Following the protests, the 15-year rule of Sheikh Hasina`s government came to an end on August 5. Afterward, an interim government led by Dr. Muhammad Yunus took charge and decided to pursue justice for the July-August genocide.
