Govt cannot avoid responsibility for harassment of former CEC: ASK

The human rights organization Ain o Salish Kendra (ASK) has held the government accountable for the recent harassment of former Chief Election Commissioner KM Nurul Huda by a group in Uttara, Dhaka.

In a statement on Monday, ASK condemned the incident, stressing that such acts reflect a serious breakdown of law and order in the country.

They pointed out that from January to June 2025, at least 83 people have died due to similar unrest.

ASK criticized the government’s failure to take effective action against organized violence, despite warnings from the military.

They warned that continued impunity risks normalizing mob culture, threatening the rule of law.

Highlighting Nurul Huda’s status as a freedom fighter and citizen, ASK said, “This public assault is not only a personal humiliation but also an attack on the dignity of the state and the rule of law.”

The organization urged that only courts have the authority to determine guilt, emphasizing constitutional protections of personal security and justice.
