Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today said the government is closely monitoring the situation following an earthquake and has instructed all relevant offices to move immediately to the field and assess potential damage.
“The government is aware of the public concern and anxiety following the earthquake tremors felt in different parts of the country. The situation is being closely monitored, and all relevant offices have been instructed to immediately move to the field level and assess any possible damage,” he said in a message released by his press wing this afternoon.
“The government is taking all necessary measures, giving utmost priority to public safety,” he added, noting that fire service teams are responding promptly to damage reports from across the country, including the capital.
Prof Yunus also urged citizens to ignore rumours or misinformation and remain cautious. He said further instructions would be issued if needed, including through official government channels and hotlines.
“We are committed to ensuring the safety of all citizens,” the Chief Adviser said.
Earlier, at around 10:40 am, an earthquake measuring 5.7 on the Richter scale was felt in different parts of the country, including Dhaka.
