Govt takes up 1,270 new ADP projects for FY2026-27: State Minister Saki

The government has approved 1,270 new development projects for inclusion in the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the 2026-27 fiscal year, as part of its efforts to improve public investment planning and project execution.

State Minister for Planning Zonayed Saki disclosed the information on Saturday while speaking at a seminar on the national budget held at CIRDAP.
He said a total of 1,333 development projects are currently under implementation. Of these, 1,150 will continue into the next fiscal year, while the remaining projects are expected to be completed before the end of June.

According to the minister, the newly approved projects were selected from nearly 1,600 proposals submitted by different agencies.

Saki said the government has adopted a more coordinated approach to development planning, aiming to avoid the disconnects that affected many projects in the past.

He noted that infrastructure and service projects will now be designed in a way that allows people to receive the full benefits once implementation is completed.

Highlighting the importance of transparency, he said greater accountability in public spending is essential for encouraging private sector investment. Confidence among investors, he added, depends on openness in budgeting, taxation and project management.

The state minister also criticised previous long-term planning frameworks, saying they often lacked practical implementation strategies.

He said future five-year plans will place greater emphasis on execution so that measurable outcomes can be achieved within the planning cycle.

Saki warned that weak implementation and inefficiency have caused significant financial losses over the years.

Reducing waste in development spending, he said, remains one of the government‍‍`s priorities.

Speaking about the banking sector, he said confidence in financial institutions must be restored after years of challenges that affected both depositors and legitimate businesses.

Creating a supportive environment for new entrepreneurs is also a key objective, he added.

On energy policy, Saki said the government is moving ahead with plans to expand renewable energy generation and has set a target of producing 10,000 megawatts from renewable sources.

He also defended recent adjustments in fuel and electricity prices, saying the government has been open about the reasons behind the decisions and is committed to maintaining transparency in economic management.
