The Health Sector Reform Commission has submitted its final report to Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus, marking the completion of submissions by all five commissions formed in the second phase of state reform.

The handover took place at 11 am on Monday during a formal ceremony at the State Guest House Jamuna in Dhaka, according to the Chief Advisor’s Office (CAO).

Established by the interim government on November 18, the second-phase commissions were tasked with proposing reforms in five areas: health, media, labour, women’s affairs, and local government.

Though originally given a 90-day deadline, the timeframe was later extended to March 31 and then April 30.

The Health Sector Reform Commission, chaired by National Professor Dr AK Azad Khan—who also serves as the president of the Diabetic Association of Bangladesh—was supported by an 11-member expert panel in drafting its reform recommendations.

These initiatives followed the collapse of the Awami League government amid a mass uprising on August 5, 2024. In response, the interim administration launched a wide-ranging effort to reform key sectors of governance and restructure the state.

In the first phase, six commissions were formed to suggest reforms in the Constitution, judiciary, electoral system, public administration, police, and Anti-Corruption Commission—all of which have already submitted and published their reports.

With the final reports from the second-phase commissions now submitted, the National Consensus Commission has been holding dialogues with political parties since March 20 to build agreement on the proposed reforms—excluding those related to police restructuring.
