In response to condemnation of opposition leaders in the national parliament Health Minister Zahid Malek said that he likes criticism.
The health minister made the remarks while delivering a speech to the National Parliament on Wednesday (September 15) after a discussion between opposition lawmakers on the Bangladesh Children's Hospital and Institute Bill.
During the Jatiya Sangsad session chaired by Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury, the health minister said, "I like criticism. Criticism empowers people according to an American proverb,” while responding to various allegations raised against the ministry.
“The information must be accurate when criticizing. It cannot be wrong. You do not understand the work of the health ministry,” Zahid Maleque said.
Claiming to have taken action against irregularities in the health sector the minister said, “Most of the corruptions you are taking occur at the private sector. We are taking stern action if any allegation is proved.”
If there was no good system in the country, the average life expectancy would not be 63 years, which is a contribution of the Ministry of Health. The Prime Minister has received the MDG (Millennium Development Goals) award through the Ministry of Health. She has become a vaccine hero, receiving the South-South Award. These awards would not be achieved if we do not work,” the minister furthered.
