Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Adviser to the Ministry of Home Affairs, stated on Thursday that while intelligence agencies had information about the attack in Gopalganj, they did not anticipate the scale of the violence.

Speaking to reporters outside his office at the Home Ministry, he emphasized that those responsible for wrongdoing would be arrested and no one would be spared.

He also confirmed that the situation in Gopalganj is currently under control and normal.

The violence erupted on Wednesday during a march and rally organized by the National Citizen Party (NCP) in Gopalganj, involving multiple attacks, clashes, arson, and vandalism, which resulted in four deaths.

NCP central leaders have accused the banned Awami League of orchestrating the attacks.
