“No adviser or administrator will be allowed in Nagar Bhaban”

BNP leader Ishraque Hossain

BNP leader Ishraque Hossain has said that no administrator or adviser appointed by the government will be permitted to operate from the Nagar Bhaban.

If necessary, he said, a "revolutionary City Council" consisting of former councillors and heads of educational institutions will be formed to manage the operations of Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC).

He made the remarks on Friday during a visit to the National Eidgah Ground, which has been prepared for the main Eid-ul-Azha congregation, according to a report by Bangla Tribune.

“No adviser or administrator will be allowed to sit in the Nagar Bhaban,” Ishraque reiterated. “I could have accepted that position by making compromises, but I chose not to, as it would not have served the best interests of the city’s residents.”

Regarding his visit to the Eidgah, the BNP leader said, “I am here as the rightful mayor, based on the people’s electoral mandate and a directive from the Supreme Court. Overseeing preparations for Eid falls under my responsibilities. I will also be present on-site tomorrow (Saturday) to support the cleaning workers.”

Commenting on the interim government‍‍`s Advisory Council, Ishraque said it had lost credibility and impartiality, and claimed that fair elections could not be held under its supervision.

He urged members of the council to resign from their current roles if they wish to engage in politics, and to do so openly by joining political parties.
