A petition has been filed against former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 186 others in connection with the shooting death of Ali Hossain during a student protest on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Uttara, Dhaka.
The case also names 700 to 800 unidentified individuals as accused.
The petition was submitted on Sunday, December 8, by Mofizul Islam Sana, a relative of the victim, to the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate`s Court, presided over by Ragib Noor.
The court has asked the police to report within 20 working days whether any investigation or case has already been filed regarding the incident.
According to Mofizul`s lawyer, Zakir Hossain, the list of accused includes high-profile figures like former ministers Obaidul Quader, Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, Anisul Haque, Mohammad Ali Arafat, former mayor Atiqul Islam, ex-MPs Khasru Chowdhury and Habib Hasan, and former IGP Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun.
Also named were DMP Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former DB Chief Harun-or-Rashid, and Biplob Kumar Sarker.
The incident occurred during the student protests against discrimination when Ali Hossain was shot near the Azampur-House Building area of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.
He was rushed to Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
