Letter found threatening to bomb Ekushey book fair

A letter has been sent to the Director General of Bangla Academy Muhammad Nurul Huda threatening to do bombing in the ongoing month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair. 

The letter sender identified himself as Maulana Md Saiful Islam, a member of the banned militant outfit Ansar Al Islam.

He also claimed himself as a JMB members as well in the letter sent via post office which was received around 11am on February 23.

Bangla Academy DG Nurul Huda admitted of getting the threat threatening letter. 

He told TheReport.Live on Thursday night, “The letter says that illegal activities are taking place in a hotel in Jatrabari. The law-enforcing forces must take effective measures to stop these things—otherwise the Amar Ekushey Book Fair may be attacked."

Nurul Huda, also a poet, said that he informed police about the security issue. Jahangir Alam, security officer of Bangla Academy filed a general diary (GD) with Shahbagh police station.

Why Book Fair?

Meanwhile, in the handwritten letter, it has been said, "Despite applying to the police to stop prostitution in some hotels of the capital, they have not taken any action. So they want to kill the police by bombing police headquarters in Bangladesh as like as Karachi police headquarters bombing in Pakistan."

The banned outfit is waiting for an opportunity, the letter stated.

If the police do not stop the prostitution business, the book lovers will be killed by bombing into the book fair. The reason they mentioned that lovers have not written anything against sex trade.

The dog squad of the law enforcement agency checked the book fair premises as part of ensuring security. So far, nothing suspicious issue has been reported.
