In a recent turn of events, the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives has shifted its official operations to the vacant rooms of the Dhaka South City Corporation (City Hall) following a devastating fire that broke out in the administrative center of the Secretariat.
This shift will begin on Sunday, December 29, as confirmed by Asif Mahmud Sojib Bhuiyan, the ministry`s advisor.
“Official work will not be stopped for a single day,” Bhuiyan said, ensuring that the ministry’s important public-oriented projects will continue without interruption. He also emphasized that no effort will be allowed to erase the corruption records from the previous regime.
“We will not let any such schemes take shape,” he added, urging all ministry officials to work with renewed energy and commitment.
The fire, which took place late on Wednesday night, severely damaged several ministry offices in the Secretariat.
Among the worst-hit were the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development, and Cooperatives, as well as the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry, the Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Ministry, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Ministry of Labor and Employment.
Important documents, computers, and furniture were destroyed, and significant damage was done to the walls and floors of the affected offices.
In light of this, it was decided that the ministries would temporarily move their operations to the offices of their respective departments.
For the Ministry of Local Government, the Dhaka South City Corporation`s unused rooms have been selected to keep operations running smoothly during this interim period.
