A demonstration titled ‘March for Yunus’ was held in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh, Dhaka, demanding that Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the current Chief Advisor of the interim government, be appointed President and that a national government be formed under his leadership.
The event began at 3:30 PM on Saturday (May 24). Although the initial turnout was modest, more people gradually gathered carrying banners and placards. The program was organized under the banner of “People from All Walks of Life.”
Protesters chanted slogans such as: “Who are you, who am I? Yunus, Yunus!”, “Not Delhi, Dhaka!”, “What we need now is a national government”, “Make bamboo sticks, save Bangladesh”, “No more silence, Yunus, Yunus!”
The five-point demands presented at the event are:
Appoint Dr. Muhammad Yunus as President
Form a national government
Reform the Constitution
Prosecute the Awami League for the July killings
Grant Dr. Yunus a minimum five-year term in office
Through this demonstration, participants called for a new political framework under Yunus’s leadership to address the ongoing national crisis.
