A demonstration titled ‘March for Yunus’ was held in front of the National Museum at Shahbagh, Dhaka, demanding that Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the current Chief Advisor of the interim government, be appointed President and that a national government be formed under his leadership.

The event began at 3:30 PM on Saturday (May 24). Although the initial turnout was modest, more people gradually gathered carrying banners and placards. The program was organized under the banner of “People from All Walks of Life.”

Protesters chanted slogans such as: “Who are you, who am I? Yunus, Yunus!”, “Not Delhi, Dhaka!”, “What we need now is a national government”, “Make bamboo sticks, save Bangladesh”,  “No more silence, Yunus, Yunus!”

The five-point demands presented at the event are:

Appoint Dr. Muhammad Yunus as President

Form a national government

Reform the Constitution

Prosecute the Awami League for the July killings
