The government has revoked the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) and President Police Medal (PPM) awarded to 40 fugitive police officers, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police Additional Commissioner Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, DIG Syed Nurul Islam, and Additional DIG Biplob Kumar Sarkar.
According to a notification signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Tauceef Ahmed of the Public Security Division, the decision was made as departmental proceedings are underway against the officers for fleeing their posts. Although dated August 7, the order became public on Sunday.
The officers have been on the run since the August 5 mass uprising last year that toppled the Awami League government.
The list includes officials of various ranks, from DIG and Additional DIG to Superintendent, Additional Superintendent, and Inspector.
