After being closed for about two and a half hours, metro rail service resumed around 4:30 pm on Sunday. Previously, the metro rail movement was halted for over two hours due to zero voltage in the overhead electrical wires of the Pallabi section of MRT Line-6.
On Sunday (February 4) noon, the Motijheel-bound train from Uttara stopped suddenly on its way to Pallabi station.
An officer in charge of Line-6 of Metrorail told the media that the movement of Metrorail has been stopped for almost two hours due to zero voltage in Overhead Catenary System (OCS) (electrical wire) in Pallabi section of MRT Line-6 of Metrorail. As a result, the passengers inside train are panicking.
According to the official, the voltage in the overhead catenary system fluctuates. Regular train operation requires 1500 volts. But now it turns out that volts turned down to zero. It has only happened in the Pallabi section. Because the sections are partitioned. That is, there are 1500 volts in the sections before and after Pallabi. Only the pallabi section contains zero volts on both lines. As a result, even if the train is on the track, there is no way to cross this section.
The official also said that the managing company Dhaka Mass Transit Company Limited (DMTCL) is working to bring back the voltage to the OCS.
Earlier it was reported that metro rail movement was stopped from 2:40 pm.
