Nearly 1,500 police officers who were dismissed during the last tenure of the Awami League government are set to return to their posts.
These officers had lost their jobs for various reasons but successfully won their appeals to have their dismissals overturned.
The Police Headquarters made this announcement through an official statement.
The Police Headquarters revealed that they had received a total of 1,522 requests from dismissed officers asking for their reinstatement.
These officers had been let go for different reasons under the previous government.
Among the applicants are 1,025 constables, 79 naik, 180 ASI/ATSIs, 200 SI/Sergeants/TSIs, 10 inspectors, and 28 non-police personnel.
To review these reinstatement requests, a committee led by a Deputy Inspector General (DIG) was formed in August of last year.
The committee has already submitted its recommendations and findings.
For those who have won their appeals in the appeal tribunal, the Police Headquarters is now working on getting them reinstated.
However, those who didn’t file appeals against their dismissal orders cannot be reinstated because of legal restrictions.
The same applies to those who didn’t take their cases to the Administrative Tribunal.
Additionally, officers with serious allegations such as moral misconduct or financial corruption will not be considered for reinstatement, as mentioned in the statement.
The Police Headquarters also reminded the reinstated officers to follow proper conduct and refrain from any actions that go against the discipline expected of them.
This decision brings hope to many officers who were unjustly dismissed and gives them a chance to get back to serving the public.
