No arrest in July–August cases without investigation: Home affairs adviser

Home Affairs Adviser Lt. Gen. (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has assured that no one will be arrested without proper investigation in connection with the July–August protest-related cases.

He made the remarks on Monday, June 9, while visiting Jatrabari Police Station and exchanging Eid greetings with on-duty police personnel.

In response to a question from reporters, the adviser stated, “Many of the cases related to the July protests have yet to be thoroughly investigated. Legal action will be taken only after determining guilt through investigation. No innocent person should be punished. Only those found guilty through a proper inquiry will face legal consequences. No one is above the law.”

When asked about the overall law and order situation during Eid, he said, “We are satisfied with the situation this Eid. There have been no major incidents reported in the capital or elsewhere in the country. Apart from a few minor thefts and road accidents, the overall situation has remained peaceful.”

He also addressed the issue of meals provided to on-duty police personnel during Eid. “We came here to greet the officers and inspect their food arrangements. They informed us that while their lunch and dinner are the same in terms of food items, the prices differ. We‍‍`ve instructed that the same pricing should be applied for both meals. Additionally, a Sub-Inspector (SI) will be assigned to oversee the meal distribution process to ensure proper management during Eid.”
