No mass vaccination drive by now: Health Minister

The ongoing mass vaccination drive will not continue further, said health minister Zahid Maleque.

He said this while talking to the media at secretariat on Monday (August 23).

“Immunisation drive will no long continue. Everyone must register for the shot whenever vaccines arrive,” he said.

Expressing optimism over inoculation of 7-8 crore people within January-February he said, 60 lakh doses of the Pfizer vaccine will arrive within September. Few will come this month. Besides, the WHO will provide 10 lakh doses.

Health department information shows, as many as 2 crore 24 lakh 13 thousand 79 doses have been inoculated in the country so far. Some 1 crore 66 lakh 61 thousand 412 received first dose while a total of 65 lakh 75 thousand 473 received 2nd dose.  

Government launched the mass vaccination drive on August 7 at 4 thousand 600 union parishad, 1 thousand 54 municipalities and 433 wards of 12 city corporations.
