Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader today said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the elevated expressway from airport to Farmgate on September 2 and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Tunnel, constructed in Chattogram, on October 28 next.
He made these announcements at a press conference organised at Setu Bhaban in city’s Banani area.
Quader, also Awami League General Secretary, said the airport to Farmgate section of the elevated expressway is ready to open for traffic.
“The length of this section is about 11.5 km. There are 15 ramps for boarding. Out of these, two ramps at Banani and Mohakhali will remain closed for the time being. The maximum speed limit for traffic will be 60 km per hour,” he said.
The road transport and bridges minister said three wheelers, bicycles and pedestrians will not be allowed to move on the expressway, while motorbikes cannot run on it right now.
“Toll of this section has not been finalised yet. Discussion is going on,” he added.
Quader said Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the metrorail from Agargaon to Motijheel in the middle of October.
Apart from this, he said, 150 bridges are now ready for inauguration in one day in September next.
“The date will be announced once Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina gives time,” the minister said.
Bridges Division Secretary Md Monjur Hossain was, among others, present at the press conference.
