Prime Minister’s Adviser on Policy and Strategy Affairs Dr Zahed Ur Rahman returned to Bangladesh on Monday after Indian immigration authorities stopped him at Delhi airport during a security screening, according to sources familiar with the matter.

The incident reportedly took place on Sunday evening when Dr Rahman was passing through immigration procedures at the airport.

Sources close to him said his name was flagged during a security check, leading to questioning by Indian authorities.

They alleged that the adviser faced unnecessary harassment during the process, although neither the Bangladesh nor Indian authorities had issued any official statement regarding the incident as of Monday.

According to the sources, Dr Rahman was travelling on a regular Bangladeshi passport and was carrying a valid SAARC visa at the time.

He was not using a diplomatic passport during the trip, they added.

Following the incident, the adviser returned home on Monday.

The reasons behind the security alert or the action taken by Indian immigration officials remain unclear.

No formal explanation has yet been provided by New Delhi, while Dhaka has also remained silent on the matter.

The development comes amid continued diplomatic engagement between Bangladesh and India, though officials from either side have yet to comment publicly on the circumstances surrounding the incident.
