The Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has said that the police are fully prepared to handle any situation that may arise during the upcoming elections.
Speaking to reporters after a meeting of the Core Committee on Law and Order on Sunday, the adviser emphasized the importance of maintaining a humane approach in policing.
"We do not want a police force that beats or kicks people. We want compassionate and people-friendly police," he said, highlighting the government`s commitment to upholding citizens` rights while ensuring public order.
When asked about the current law and order situation in the country, the adviser confirmed that conditions remain stable and the police are ready to respond to any potential challenges during the election period.
Addressing concerns over pushbacks from India, the adviser remarked that if any Bangladeshis are found in India, the appropriate process is to officially hand them over.
"Abandoning people on deserted roads is not an act of a civilized nation," he said, adding that the matter has been formally communicated to the Indian authorities.
The adviser also noted that the meeting of the core committee was called as part of post-Eid greetings and to review security issues.
