The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Kalabagan Police Station and two sub-inspectors have been temporarily suspended following serious allegations of nighttime extortion and vandalism.
The suspension follows an incident on the night of April 29, when a group led by Sub-Inspector Belal—allegedly including 15 to 20 criminals—entered the residence of educationist and columnist Abdul Wadud on Sonargaon Road.
The intruders reportedly identified themselves as Detective Branch (DB) officers, vandalized the property, and demanded money.
Wadud filed a complaint with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner on May 2.
Although the complaint was submitted on that day, the official acceptance date was noted as May 4.
Following the complaint, OC Moktaruzzaman and SIs Belal and Mannan were initially withdrawn from their posts and attached to the Ramna Division.
They were later formally suspended, according to Masud Alam, Deputy Commissioner of Ramna Division.
“A probe committee was formed by DMP headquarters based on the complaint. As an initial step, the OC and both sub-inspectors were relieved of duty and later suspended.
Further actions will depend on the investigation report,” Alam said.
Inspector (Investigation) Rafiqul Islam of Kalabagan Police confirmed that OC Moktaruzzaman officially handed over his responsibilities and has since left the station.
