Bangladeshi voters living abroad are receiving their postal ballots to take part in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election and referendum. So far, 677,233 ballots have been dispatched to expatriates across the world.
Salim Ahmad Khan, Team Leader of the Out of Country Voting System and Implementation (OCV-SDI) project, told BSS that the Election Commission (EC) is working to send all postal ballots to expatriates by January 10.
According to the EC, a total of 1,533,683 voters registered to vote by postal ballot through the “Postal Vote BD” app. Among them, 761,141 registered inside the country under the “in-country postal vote” category, while 772,542 registered from abroad.
Khan said that election symbols will be assigned on January 21 and expressed hope that all postal ballots would reach voters before then. He also urged expatriates to maintain the secrecy of their ballots, warning that the NIDs of those who violate ballot secrecy could be blocked.
On Tuesday evening, postal ballots were sent to 41,464 expatriates, with the largest numbers going to Singapore (17,759) and Saudi Arabia (12,000).
