President Md. Shahabuddin paid his respects by laying wreaths at the memorial of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in Tungipara, Gopalganj.
He reached Tungipara around 12:40 PM today.
After paying respects at Bangabandhu's memorial, a team of army, navy and air force gave the President a guard of honor.
Earlier, the President left for Tungipara by road from Bangabhaban at around 10 am. He went to Tungipara via Padma Bridge.
President Md. Sahabuddin recited Surah Fatiha there and participated in prayers for the peace of the departed souls of Bangabandhu and August 15 martyrs. He also signed the visitor's book in the shrine premises.
Md. Sahabuddin took the oath as the new president. Through his oath, the country got the 22nd President.
The speaker of the National Assembly Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury administered Md. Shahabuddin to take oath as the new president of Bangladesh at around 11 am in Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban on Monday (April, 24).
