Members of the Rapid Action Battalion recovered a large quantity of gunpowder and bomb-making materials from a field in Chapainawabganj’s Shibganj upazila on Sunday night.
According to a press release issued by RAB-5 on Monday, the items were found abandoned in a mustard field in the Parghorapakhia area during a late-night operation.
RAB said the raid was carried out around 10:00 pm after receiving a tip-off. During the search, the team recovered 6.27 kilograms of gunpowder along with other materials used to make explosives. These included 1.7 kilograms of small stones, 1.4 kilograms of glass powder, 385 grams of iron nails, 12 red-colored costepes, 31 plastic containers, and 29 gas lighters. The items were found packed in three polythene bags.
No arrests were made in connection with the recovery, RAB said.
The seized materials were later handed over to the Shibganj Police Station, where an investigation has been launched to identify those responsible.
