Bangabandhu, key leaders still recognized as freedom fighters: Adviser

The official recognition of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Tajuddin Ahmad, and other members of the wartime provisional government as freedom fighters has not been revoked, according to Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruq-e-Azam.

Speaking in an interview on Wednesday, Faruq-e-Azam clarified that Bangabandhu and the four national leaders are and will remain recognized as freedom fighters.

"They have not been removed. Those spreading such claims lack proper understanding. These leaders rightfully led the Liberation War—can history ever be erased?" he remarked.

Meanwhile, Cultural Affairs Adviser Mostofa Sarwar Farooki also addressed the issue in a public post, asserting that reports claiming the revocation of freedom fighter certificates for key Liberation War leaders are fake.

"Dear brothers and sisters, the news claiming that the freedom fighter certificates of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Tajuddin Ahmad, and other leaders have been canceled is entirely false," Farooki wrote.

Confusion arose after the National Freedom Fighters‍‍` Council (Jatiya Muktijoddha Council) issued a revised ordinance on Tuesday night, modifying the legal definition of a freedom fighter.

Following the ordinance, some media outlets reported that the recognition of over 400 individuals, including Bangabandhu and senior wartime leaders, had been annulled.

However, government officials have firmly denied these claims, reaffirming the continued recognition of the key figures who led the 1971 Liberation War from abroad.
