Environment, Forest, and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan today said the general election will be held between December and June, and there is no scope for even a single day`s deviation from the government`s side.
"The message to the mass people is that our being in charge is relevant only if we can carry out our responsibilities. But if we can`t, then each of us has many other things to do," she said while speaking to reporters after a programme at Senate Bhaban at Dhaka University, reports The Daily Star.
Rizwana Hasan said that this is their national responsibility which they can only carry out if they receive everyone`s cooperation.
"People may have many expectations, but to fulfill them, the enabling environment must be in place," she said.
"We are thinking ourselves whether we are truly able to fulfill our responsibilities. How we will confront the obstacles to perform our three main duties? Can we confront them at all? If so, how? If we cannot, then what should we do?" the adviser said.
When asked by journalists whether she was under any pressure, the advisor replied, "For us, the only pressure is whether we are able to perform…Apart from that, there are other types of pressure—for example, you want to go from the Secretariat to a meeting at Jamuna but are unable to, because the roads are blocked. There are many such problems that can possibly be solved through discussion."
When asked directly whether they are able to fulfill their responsibilities, Rizwana Hasan "We have come a long way despite many adverse situations. The reform commissions have submitted their reports, and the process of building political consensus based on those reports has begun, with all political parties participating. Isn`t that an example of fulfilling our duties? It is."
"We`ve already declared the election timeline—that the election will definitely be held between December and June. That too is an example of doing our duty."
"Another thing is the matter of justice. There was one tribunal; now there are two. The formal trial proceedings will begin tomorrow. But the work must proceed smoothly. Our call from the beginning was that there will be no obstacles in this process. Now we want to complete all these tasks through the correct process and we seek everyone`s cooperation," she said.
