Rohingya refugee camp in Teknaf of Cox's Bazar district has again caught fire. A fire broke out at the Chakmarkul Rohingya camp of Hoikang Union at around 8:30 pm yesterday. There were no casualties. However, more than half a hundred homes have been burnt to ashes.
Upazila Assistant Land Commissioner (AC Land) of Teknaf Md. Erfanul Haque Chowdhury confirmed the matter to the media. He said that there was a sudden fire at the women's center of a non-governmental organization (NGO) of the shelter camp at around 8:30 pm yesterday. More than half a hundred houses were burnt in this fire. Two units of Teknaf Fire Service Station brought the fire under control at 9:30 pm.
There were no casualties in the fire. Upazila Assistant Land Commissioner said that the amount of immediate damage cannot be ascertained.
A week ago, a fire broke out in Leather Rohingya camp in Teknaf, which destroyed half a hundred houses. Earlier, on March 5 this year, there was a fire at Balukhali camp number 11 in Ukhia. 2 thousand and 805 structures including houses were destroyed and 15 thousand and 925 Rohingyas suffered.
