Former adviser to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on private industry and investment, Salman F. Rahman, has been granted a 3-day remand in a murder case related to the anti-discrimination movement.
The decision was made by the Dhaka court on Monday after a hearing at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
Salman F. Rahman was brought to the court early in the morning, where the investigating officer from Jatrabari police station, Sub-Inspector Mozahidul Islam, had requested a seven-day remand for the accused.
On behalf of the state, Public Prosecutor Omar Farooq Faruki presented arguments supporting the remand, while Rahman’s defense lawyers sought to cancel the remand request and instead asked for bail.
After hearing both sides, Magistrate Mohammad Saifuzzaman dismissed the bail plea and ordered a 3-day remand for Salman F. Rahman.
In addition, 12 other individuals, including former ministers Anisul Huq, Hasanul Haq Inu, Rashed Khan Menon, Nazrul Islam Majumdar, and Junaid Ahmed Palak, have been newly arrested in connection with several murder and attempted murder cases across multiple police stations in the capital.
This also includes the arrest of former IGP Abdullah Al Mamun and journalist couple Sakil and Rupa.
