The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued a detailed forecast warning of continued oppressive heat across the country, with a possibility of relief by mid-week as rainfall is expected to increase in some regions.
According to the latest weather bulletin released Sunday morning, the intense heat currently gripping the country is likely to persist for several more days. However, isolated showers are expected to develop mid-week, which may lead to a slight drop in temperatures.
At present, the monsoon is weak over Bangladesh and moderately active over the northern Bay of Bengal. As a result, most areas are experiencing dry weather, though temporary gusts of wind accompanied by light to moderate rain or thunderstorms may occur at isolated spots in the Chattogram and Sylhet divisions.
Day and night temperatures are predicted to rise slightly across the country. A mild heatwave is currently sweeping over the Khulna division and the districts of Rajshahi, Rangpur, and Panchagarh, intensifying the feeling of discomfort among the population.
This persistent heat has significantly impacted daily life. Health experts are advising the public to stay out of the sun for extended periods, drink plenty of water, and take extra care of vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. Those with conditions like heatstroke, dehydration, or high blood pressure are urged to remain especially cautious during this period.
With the monsoon season officially beginning in June, rainfall has yet to start in earnest due to the weak monsoon system. The forecast suggests that as rainfall increases later in the week, the intensity of the heatwave may begin to ease. Until then, people across Bangladesh will have to endure several more days of hot and humid weather.
