Five people --members of two separate families-- were killed in thunderstorms in Sunamganj on Thursday, according to The Daily Star.
In the district's Jagannathpur upazila, a woman and her two children died when a tree fell on their house.
Meanwhile, a father and his child were killed while harvesting paddy in the district's Sullah upazila.
The deceased were identified as Mausama Begum (35), her daughter Mahina Akhter (3) and son Hossain Miah (1); Mukul Khan (50) and his son Masud Khan (7), reports our Sylhet correspondent quoting police.
A storm swept through Sulemanpur village in Jagannathpur upazila in the early hours of Thursday. A tree fell on the tin roof of Mausama Begum's house -- injuring three of them. Locals later rescued them and took them to the Jagannathpur Upazila Health Complex, where the on-duty doctor declared them dead.
The information was confirmed by Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Jagannathpur Police Station, and Nazrul Islam, panel chairman of the Patli Union Council.
Meanwhile, Mukul Khan went out to harvest paddy with his two sons, brother-in-law, and brother-in-law's son around 7am. They were hit by lightning at that time. Two of them died on the spot.
Mukul Khan's other son Rimon Khan (11) and brother-in-law's son Tanvir Hossain (7) have been admitted to Ajmiriganj Upazila Health Complex in Habiganj with serious injuries.
Officer-in-Charge of Sullah Police Station, Aminul Islam, confirmed the information.
