Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazley Nur Taposh has said that the real rickshaw pullers would be brought under registration.
DSCC Mayor made this announcement at the 12th board meeting of the second council meeting of the corporation at Mayor Mohammad Hanif auditorium of Nagar Bhaban in Dhaka on Tuesday afternoon.
"We have to bring all the rickshaws under registration after long days and now the rickshaw pullers would be brought under registration as per the law," he said.
According to media reports, Dhaka has several lakhs of rickshaws hitting its streets. Other than the rickshaw-pullers, the owners of the vehicles, mechanics and even garage owners are dependent earn a living centering the non-mechanical transorts.
Calling the councillors to be aware against illegal non-mechanized vehicle, the DSCC Mayor said mobile court is being operated against the illegal rickshaws.
Giving instructions to the councillors for supervising the ongoing canal cleaning programme, he said, "Our canal cleaning programme has been resumed from January and councillors concerned must have to supervise the cleaning programme intensively at your areas."
Besides, the drainage cleaning programme will also be started from next month, said the Mayor, adding that these two programmes are important for curbing the waterlog problem in the city during the rainy season.
The DSCC Mayor congratulated the councillors for fully controlling of culex mosquitoes at the south city corporation areas.
