On February 25, the first observance of National Martyrs‍‍` Day for Armed Forces, the interim government’s Chief Adviser, Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, paid deep respects to the martyrs who lost their lives during the horrific Pilkhana massacre of 2009.

In a heartfelt message, Dr. Yunus honored the fallen soldiers and expressed the government’s commitment to bringing justice for the victims and their families.

Dr. Yunus announced that the government has officially designated this day to commemorate the brave military officers who were brutally killed in the massacre.

"From now on, this day will be recognized annually as National Martyrs‍‍` Day for Armed Forces to honor the memory of the martyrs of the Pilkhana massacre," he said.

The massacre, which occurred at the BDR (Bangladesh Rifles) headquarters in Pilkhana, claimed the lives of 74 people, including 57 military officers, on February 25, 2009.

Reflecting on the devastating event, the Chief Adviser expressed his deep sorrow and called for justice, saying, "As a state, Bangladesh bears the responsibility to ensure justice for these atrocities. We are actively working toward achieving that goal."

Dr. Yunus also extended his condolences to the families of the martyrs, acknowledging their long wait for justice.

"Even after so many years, the families of the fallen soldiers are still waiting to see justice served," he said.

He emphasized the importance of the entire nation standing in solidarity with the victims‍‍` families, stating, "We hope that the people of the country will unite in support of the martyr families and all those who have been victimized."

He further highlighted the significance of this day in the country’s history, noting that it will serve as a reminder of the sacrifices made by these soldiers.

"This day reminds us of the untimely and cruel deaths of a group of courageous people who sacrificed their lives for the country. Their memory should inspire us as a nation to remain steadfast in following the right path," Dr. Yunus said.

Dr. Yunus concluded his message with a call for a better future, where the country will work together to prevent further injustice and promote prosperity.

"Let us pledge to build a self-sufficient and prosperous Bangladesh," he urged, adding that the nation must strive to become a global example in creating a world free from hunger, poverty, and unemployment.

In this call for unity and justice, the Chief Adviser hopes that the legacy of the Pilkhana martyrs will guide Bangladesh toward a future where dignity, human rights, and merit are valued, and no more lives are lost due to misrule or conspiracies.
