Those who spread rumours and gossip are not belonging the society rather they have bad motives, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury said.
"A group of miscreants wants to create social unrest through spreading lies and rumours. In that case we have to be more vigilant.
"I will discuss on any gossip and rumour. I will debate on that and establish real fact based on idiology. This will weaken the criminals," he added.
The state minister came up with these comments while addressing as chief guest at a seminar titled 'Let us prevent rumours for the sake of good governance' at the Sirdap Auditorium in Dhaka on Wednesday.
The seminar was organized by the Institute for Environment and Development (IED) in collaboration with The Asia Foundation, Bangladesh.
IED Executive Director Numan Ahmed Khan presided over the event and MP Tanvir Shakeel Joy, former Member of Parliament Nazmul Haque Pradhan, IED Coordinator Jyoti Chattopadhyay, Dhaka University Professor Shantunu Majumdar, The Asia Foundation, Bangladesh Country Representative Kazi Faisal Bin Sirazi, Dr Moshtaq Hossain, UNDP coordinator Rebecca Sultana, researcher Dr Fatema Yasmin, journalist Masum Billah were present among others.
