Dhaka police and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) have taken strong security measures in the capital ahead of the namaz-e-janaza of Inquilab Moncho spokesperson Osman Hadi.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) said extra police members have been deployed at key locations to maintain law and order. About 1,000 body-worn cameras are being used to monitor the situation. DMP Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman said these steps were taken to ensure safety and prevent any unwanted incident.
At the same time, BGB has deployed 20 platoons in and around important areas of Dhaka, including the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. BGB Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam said the move is aimed at strengthening overall security.
Osman Hadi’s namaz-e-janaza will be held at 2:30pm at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. The government has requested people attending the funeral not to bring bags or heavy items. Flying drones in and around the parliament complex has also been strictly banned during the prayers.
According to a Facebook post from Inquilab Moncho’s official page, Hadi will be buried beside national poet Kazi Nazrul Islam at Dhaka University, following his family’s wishes.
Osman Hadi was shot in the head on December 12 while riding in a rickshaw on Culvert Road in Puratan Paltan. He was first treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital and later moved to Evercare Hospital. He was then flown to Singapore for advanced treatment, where he died from his injuries on the night of December 18. His body arrived in Dhaka on Friday evening.
