Train services resumed after hours-long strike across the country as the Sylhet-bound Parabat Express departed Dhaka's Kamalapur Railway Station, reports The Daily Star.
Khairul Kabir, divisional transport officer (Dhaka Division) of Bangladesh Railways, confirmed the development, saing the train left around 1:30pm today.
Earlier in the day, commuters across Bangladesh had a harrowing time as loco masters embarked on an indefinite strike since early morning, demanding the restoration of the mileage allowance, accordidng to UNB.
The strike crippled train services across the country, with passengers on internal routes in different parts being the worst hit.
Around 5am, the loco masters began their strike in protest against the government’s recent decision to revoke the allowance, said Shariful Alam, public relations officer of the railway ministry.
Railway minister, the secretary and other senior officials met with the protesting loco masters at Kamalapur railway station in the morning to resolve the issue.
UNB Gazipur correspondent reports: No trains have left Joydebpur railway station since 6 am, and a number of trains, including ‘Ekota Express’ from North Bengal, are stranded there due to the strike.
Mileage allowance is paid according to the number of miles driven for loco masters and other relevant staff.
