Washington is trying to find a sustainable solution to the ongoing problem of Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh, said Derek H. Scholey, adviser to the US Secretary of State and counselor at the State Department.
He also assured that Dhaka will get support of Washington in solving this problem.
Scholey came up with these remarks on Wednesday (February 15) after a meeting with Foreign Minister AK Abdul Momen.
They spoke on various bilateral issues for about one and a half hours at the state guest house Padma.
The US State Department counselor said that the United States attaches importance to the relationship with Bangladesh. Efforts are being made to find a sustainable solution to the Rohingya crisis.
"We are optimistic about the future. We want to work together. We have many challenges ahead and equal opportunities to work together," Scholey added.
The foreign minister said that the United States wants to strengthen bilateral relations.
Earlier, Scholey met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganabhaban in the morning. Apart from this, he is scheduled to meet with representatives of civil society.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's Special Adviser Scholey arrived in Dhaka on a short visit on Tuesday. Foreign Ministry sources informed that he will leave Dhaka on Wednesday evening.
