Hasnat Abdullah, the Convener of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, has made a strong statement against fascism and its supporters, declaring that "any pens that write in favor of fascism will be broken."
He also vowed that those who support fascist media will face firm opposition.
Speaking at a street rally and public outreach program held at Narayanganj’s Chashara Central Shaheed Minar on Tuesday at around 11:30 AM, Abdullah made these remarks while distributing leaflets.
The event was part of a central campaign demanding official recognition of the July Revolution.
In his speech, Hasnat Abdullah focused on the need for justice for the Awami League’s leadership, stating,
"Those talk show participants, university professors, intellectuals, and media figures who are suddenly concerned about human rights issues related to the Awami League—we will take it as proof that you’ve been benefiting from this fascist regime and have supported it all along. So, we will break the pens that write for fascism. We will take a stand against media supporting fascism. We will stand strong against the minds backing fascism. Let us be clear: if you fail to understand the demands of the young generation today, the fate that has befallen the Awami League will also befall future leaders who come to power."
Hasnat Abdullah further stressed that the debate over the rehabilitation of Awami League’s politics is no longer relevant.
"From the ward level to the central leadership, every Awami League leader and activist must be brought to justice. Until justice is served, anyone speaking about their rehabilitation or claiming the elections will not be participatory—we’ll consider them to be complicit in the barbaric politics the Awami League has imposed on this country for the last 16 years."
He also referenced the decision made on August 5th, which he believes has already determined whether the Awami League will be banned from Bangladesh.
"On one side, the July-August revolutionaries are waiting for the written recognition of their revolution, while on the other, the state apparatus is making various preparations to rehabilitate fascism. But the decision regarding the rehabilitation of Awami League’s politics has already been made, and there is no need for any new decisions," he said.
Abdullah urged the interim government to quickly issue the Declaration of the July Revolution and was joined by central leaders of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, as well as Samanta Sharmin, spokesperson for the National Citizen Committee.
Local leaders from both groups also took part in the street rally and outreach efforts.
The rally, held in a busy part of the city, drew significant attention and further fueled the ongoing political discourse surrounding the future of the Awami League and fascist ideologies in Bangladesh.
