Wife Chumki Karon has been awarded more punishment than her husband suspended Officer in Charge (OC) of Teknaf police station Pradeep Kumar Das in a graft case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
The court handed down Pradeep 20 years in jail while his wife Chumki has been jailed for 21 years. Judge Munsi Abdul Majid of Chattogram special court pronounced the verdict Wednesday.
Asked on why Pradeep’s wife is penalized more than Pradeep the ACC lawyer Mahmudul Haque said, Pradeep has been proven guilty under three sections of the penal code while his wife Chumki is convicted in four sections.
The duo was awarded same punishment in three sections----8 years in, 2 years and 10 years. All the punishment will continue simultaneously.
Besides, the court also directed the siege the illegal asset the couple amassed illegally. The district administration and ACC have been asked to take necessary steps to this connection.
“Pradeep has been acquitted in a case while his wife was found guilty. So, she will have to serve additional one year in jail,” Mahmudul Haque was quoted by Prothom Alo.
