Jannatul Ferdous, a resident of Chikalbaha, Karnaphuli, Chittagong, welcomed a baby girl into the world under extraordinary circumstances. On Sunday, around 6 pm, while aboard the Subarna Express traveling from Dhaka to Chittagong, Jannatul experienced labor pains. With the assistance of railway crews and fellow passengers, she successfully gave birth while the train was crossing Talshahr station in Brahmanbaria.
Jannatul Ferdous, who is married to Md. Iqbal Hossain, a furniture seller in Dhaka, already has a five-year-old son. The family was traveling to Chittagong when the unexpected delivery occurred.
Railway staff quickly responded to the situation when informed that a female passenger in the D-compartment was in labor. The decision was made to halt the non-stop train at Brahmanbaria station and arrange for the pregnant woman to be transported to the hospital. The station`s pointsman Shahriar Ahmed Emon and platform businessman Md. Dalim facilitated the preparations, ensuring everything was in place.
As the train approached Talshahr station, the baby girl was born. Prompt assistance from a female doctor among the passengers, a female attendant, and other fellow passengers ensured the well-being of both mother and child. Upon reaching Brahmanbaria railway station, Shahriar Ahmed Emon and Dalim swiftly escorted the mother to Brahmanbaria General Hospital in a pre-arranged auto-rickshaw.
Smriti Rani Roy, a senior staff nurse at Brahmanbaria General Hospital, confirmed that both mother and daughter received necessary medical attention and are in good health.
Expressing relief and gratitude, Shahriar Ahmed Emon and Md. Dalim emphasized the importance of collective action in times of crisis. They praised the cooperation of everyone involved in ensuring the safe delivery of the baby girl.
Md. Jasim Uddin, the Station Master at Brahmanbaria Railway Station, commended the passengers for their cooperation, highlighting the seamless coordination that prevented any complications during the birth.
Jannatul Ferdous expressed her gratitude for the support received from everyone on the train, acknowledging the unexpected turn of events with a sense of thankfulness.
Similarly, Md. Iqbal Hossain, the newborn`s father, expressed his appreciation for the collective effort that ensured the safety of his wife and child during the impromptu delivery.
Dr. Tajul Islam, from Brahmanbaria General Hospital`s emergency department, confirmed that both mother and daughter received treatment upon arrival at the hospital. Although advised to stay, they left shortly after, demonstrating good health.
