Bangladesh receives $1 billion in foreign investment over nine months: BIDA

Bangladesh received foreign direct investment (FDI) amounting to $756 million, equivalent to approximately BDT 9,247 crore between October 2024 and March 2025. Additionally, over the past nine months, the total proposed foreign investment reached around $1 billion (BDT 12,220 crore).

The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) clarified key facts in response to recent claims by an industry representative that no new foreign investment has entered the country in the past eight months and that the investment authority is involved only in government-to-government projects,

BIDA registered 739 industrial projects in the last nine months, including 66 fully foreign-owned and 61 joint ventures. Furthermore, the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA) signed land lease agreements with 16 companies—six fully foreign-owned and three joint ventures.

The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (BEPZA) finalized agreements with 31 firms.

BIDA emphasized that such sweeping remarks on foreign investment can harm the country’s image and urged that public statements be based on accurate information to avoid confusion or concern.

BIDA remains committed to creating an investment-friendly environment through policy and institutional reforms and aims to build a strong investment pipeline through meaningful connections between domestic and international investors.

Several high-level B2B events, including one next week with a Chinese business delegation, are being organized to promote sector-specific investment opportunities.
