Army chief meets president and chief adviser, updates on China visit

Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman on Monday held courtesy meetings with President Mohammad Sahabuddin and Interim Government Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus. During the meetings, the army chief briefed both officials on his recent official visit to China.

According to a senior official, General Waker-uz-Zaman met the President at Bangabhaban around 11 am.

As per protocol, the head of the armed forces informs the President about any official foreign visits upon return.

During the meeting, the army chief also updated the President on the country’s law and order situation and the army’s measures to maintain it.

Following this, around 12 pm, the army chief met with Chief Adviser Professor Yunus at his office. He provided details about his China visit and discussed the nation’s law and order scenario with the Chief Adviser.

General Waker-uz-Zaman had traveled to China on an official visit on 20 August. According to an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) statement issued on 28 August, he returned home on 27 August night.

During the trip, he held courtesy meetings with General Shen Hui, Political Commissioner of the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Ground Forces, and other senior Chinese military and civilian officials, discussing matters of mutual interest.

Earlier, the army chief had met Chief Justice Syed Refat Ahmed at his residence on Sunday, where legal and other matters were discussed.

Sources emphasized that all meetings with the President, Chief Adviser, and Chief Justice were conducted according to established protocol and in a cordial atmosphere. Any speculation or confusion surrounding these meetings is unfounded.
