In a bid to enhance healthcare facilities and strengthen bilateral relations, Bangladesh is set to construct a 100-bed burn unit hospital in Bhutan, announced Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud. The decision comes following repeated praises from the Bhutanese government regarding Bangladesh`s healthcare management.
During his visit to Bangladesh on Sunday, King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk of Bhutan, accompanied by a delegation, is expected to sign multiple agreements, including ventures for joint investment with Japan in the Narayanganj economic zone. Additionally, Bhutan plans to invest in a specialized economic zone in Kurigram, as disclosed by Dr. Hasan Mahmud.
Further collaboration is anticipated in various sectors, with agreements slated for closer cooperation in health, ICT, and tourism. Talks also include proposals for tripartite cooperation in hydropower production involving India, alongside initiatives to expand trade through the implementation of Transit and Preferential Trade Agreements.
Key agreements encompass the establishment of a Burn and Plastic Surgery Unit in Thimphu, Bhutan, and the creation of a special economic zone in Kurigram, Bangladesh. Technical cooperation in consumer protection and cultural fields is also on the agenda.
In a move to bolster educational ties, Bangladesh plans to increase the number of seats for Bhutanese students in medical colleges from 22 to 30. Additionally, two seats will be allocated annually in the Bangladesh Foreign Service Academy for the training of Bhutanese Foreign Service Officers.
Dr. Hasan Mahmud also announced Bangladesh`s commitment to provide technical support for establishing a diplomatic training center in Bhutan. Furthermore, the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council will offer three-year training programs to Bhutanese agricultural officials, supplemented by electronic devices for capacity building and skill development.
