A new Facebook page titled "Broiler Chicken Party" has appeared on social media amid ongoing protests demanding the resignation of Bangladesh`s Education Minister, Dr. A N M Ehsanul Haque Milon, following a viral audio clip in which he allegedly referred to protesting students as "farm chickens."
The page, launched on Tuesday, carries the slogan "We are not insulted, We are awakened." By around 4:45pm, it had attracted more than 1,000 followers.
The page has been sharing photos and videos from the student demonstrations, which have continued despite heavy rainfall and widespread waterlogging across parts of the country.
Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinees have been protesting the government`s decision to continue public examinations despite the adverse weather conditions. The students are also demanding the resignation of the education minister over his handling of the situation.
The Facebook page`s name is widely seen as a satirical response to the viral audio recording circulating on social media, in which the minister is alleged to have described protesting students as "farm chickens" ("ফার্মের মুরগী"), a remark that has sparked widespread criticism online. The authenticity of the audio has not been independently verified.
The emergence of the "Broiler Chicken Party" page echoes a similar social media phenomenon in India, where a page called "Cockroach Janta Party" (CJP) was created after controversial remarks by the country`s Chief Justice, becoming a vehicle for online satire and political commentary.
