China welcomes over 50,000 young Americans in exchange programme

China has announced that it has achieved its goal of hosting more than 50,000 young Americans through educational and cultural exchange programmes, fulfilling a five-year target set in 2023.

According to China‍‍`s Ministry of Education, participants from all 50 US states and Washington, D.C., have visited different parts of the country, taking part in study tours, language programmes and academic exchanges.

The ministry said the visitors travelled across China‍‍`s 31 provincial-level regions, as well as the special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macao.

The exchange activities included language learning courses, summer and winter camps, sports events, academic programmes and degree-related studies, offering participants opportunities to experience Chinese culture and education firsthand.

An official from the ministry‍‍`s international cooperation department said the initiative helped improve mutual understanding between young people from the two countries by reducing information gaps and strengthening people-to-people connections.

The official added that such exchanges contribute to stable, healthy and sustainable relations between China and the United States.

China‍‍`s education authorities also called for greater participation from educational institutions, businesses and civil society groups to expand exchange opportunities and build long-term partnerships between the two countries.

Educational and cultural exchanges have long been viewed as an important component of China-US relations, particularly during periods of political and economic tension.

Officials said future efforts will focus on turning short-term visits into lasting cooperation in education, research and cultural engagement.
