Shortly after being attacked and forced off the Dhaka University campus by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activists, quota protesters announced plans to stage a procession on campus later today to denounce the assault.
Nahid Islam, an organizer of the quota protests, asserted, "Our movement will persist. Today, we will organize a procession on the DU campus to protest against the attack by Chhatra League."
Nahid did not specify the exact timing of the procession.
Speaking to reporters at approximately 4:30 pm in front of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where he visited those injured in the attack, he stated, "About 150 of our students have been injured. Chhatra League attacked us to suppress our movement."
For the past two weeks, students and job seekers have been mobilizing for reforms to the government job quota system.
On June 5, the High Court deemed illegal a 2018 government circular abolishing the quota system.
On July 10, the Supreme Court issued a status quo order on the High Court`s ruling.
