The university administration raided the all residential halls of Jahangirnagar University (JU) under the leadership of their respective hall provosts on Tuesday (February 6) night.
At that time, the university administration took out several illegal students from the hall and assigned seats to the valid ones. Besides, all the rooms in the hall which were locked have been broken and new locks have been installed.
Earlier, on Tuesday, teachers and students of the university formed a human chain in protest against recent rape incident inside the campus and demanded a safe campus.
The university unit of the Chhatra League held a rally demanding strict punishment for the people involved in the rape.
Earlier on 3 February, Mostafizur Rahman, International Affairs Secretary of JU unit Chhatra League and an outsider Mamun allegedly raped a woman near Mir Mosharraf Hossain Hall while keeping her husband locked in a room in the dormitory. Mamun was a tenant of the rape-survivor.
The victim woman filed a complaint in the Ashulia police station against six. Following that, the police arrested four people including the main accused. The arrestees are Mostafizur Rahman, Sabbir Hasan Sagar, Sagar Siddique, and Hasanuzzaman.
