Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Shakhawat Hossain Bakul has said that healthcare services will be delivered through a pilot scheme, under which health workers will go door to door to provide primary treatment and basic healthcare. Patients will only be brought to hospitals if necessary. The government plans to make healthcare more accessible nationwide through this system.

He made these remarks on Saturday afternoon while speaking as the chief guest at a financial assistance distribution event for poor and underprivileged people, held at the Monohardi Upazila Parishad auditorium in Narsingdi, funded from his personal resources.

The Health Minister said that the previous government engaged in corruption and laundered money abroad. “We are running a different kind of government,” he said, adding that the government aims to serve all people regardless of political affiliation. He claimed that people no longer need to pay bribes to access government services, and that the Prime Minister has strictly instructed all officials to work above corruption and in the interest of the public. He also said that Ad-Din Hospital had handled billions of taka improperly, and that its license had been revoked. He added that, meanwhile, Jamaat leaders are now speaking in support of Ad-Din.

He further said that with China’s assistance, the government is planning to build two 3,000-bed specialized hospitals to provide dedicated healthcare services for women and children.

The event was attended by Monohardi Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) Sajib Mia, Upazila BNP Member Secretary Aminur Rahman Sarkar Dolon, Officer-in-Charge of Monohardi Police Station Jahangir Badsha, and Municipality BNP Member Secretary Advocate Abdul Hannan, among others.

During the event, financial aid was distributed among more than 200 poor and helpless people from the municipality and various unions. Later, the minister also planted and distributed tree saplings.
